The applications of stainless steel shot
Stainless Steel Shot is a kind of metal abrasive made of stainless steel (such as 304, 316, 430, etc.), featuring corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and long service life. It is widely used in industries that have high requirements for surface treatment. Here are the main categories of its applications:
1. Surface cleaning and oxide scale removal
(1) Cleaning of corrosion-resistant metals such as stainless steel and aluminum alloy
Application scenarios:
Remove the oxide scale, welding slag, oil stains and other contaminants from stainless steel plates, aluminum alloy castings and titanium alloy workpieces.
It is applicable to industries with high cleanliness requirements such as food machinery, chemical equipment, and medical devices.
Advantages:
It will not contaminate the surface of the workpiece and avoid the rust residue caused by common steel shot.
(2) Precision Parts Cleaning
Application scenarios:
Surface cleaning of precision parts such as electronic components, automotive parts, and aviation fasteners.
Advantages:
Stainless steel shot does not introduce impurities and is suitable for high-precision industries.

2. Surface strengthening (Shot Peening strengthening)
(1) Enhance the fatigue resistance of metals
Application scenarios:
The strengthening treatment of high-stress components such as the blades of aero-engine, automotive springs and gears.
Advantages:
The hardness of the stainless steel balls is moderate (HRC 40-50), which can form a uniform compressive stress layer and extend the service life of the parts.
(2) Handling of Medical Devices and Implants
Application Scenarios:
Surface strengthening of surgical instruments and orthopedic implants (such as titanium alloy joints).
Advantages:
Pollution-free and in line with the hygiene standards for the medical industry.

3. Polishing and finishing processing
(1) Mirror surface polishing of stainless steel products
Application scenarios:
Surface polishing of kitchenware (pots, spoons), bathroom hardware and decorative panels.
Advantages:
Compared with ordinary steel shot, stainless steel shot has a brighter surface after polishing and no risk of rusting.
(2) Post-processing of 3D printed parts
Application scenarios:
The removal of supports and the improvement of surface finish for metal 3D printed parts.
Advantages:
Prevent cross-contamination caused by ordinary steel shot (such as iron powder adhering).
4. Special Industry Applications
(1) Cleaning of Food and Pharmaceutical Equipment
Application Scenarios:
Cleaning of the inner walls of food processing equipment and pharmaceutical machinery.
Advantages:
Compliant with FDA, GMP and other hygiene standards, without risk of heavy metal pollution.
(2) Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering
Application Scenarios:
Cleaning and anti-corrosion treatment of metal components (such as propellers and hulls) in seawater environment.
Advantages:
The 316 stainless steel beads are resistant to salt fog corrosion and are suitable for marine environments.
(3) Nuclear Industry and High Cleanliness Environment
Application Scenarios:
Surface treatment of nuclear reactor components and semiconductor equipment.
